Beans, beans, beans
At the beginning of October we went with our class to the Weltacker to harvest beans. The weather was great and it was nice to enjoy the sunshine. It was really hot, but sometimes there was a cool breeze. We worked at one of the bean tents that we had built in spring. The beans had grown really high! While Tim was picking some beans, something black suddenly jumped into his face, and he almost fell on his back! We also saw a lot of worms and other insects.
When we were done harvesting, the busy kids had more than one bucket full. Then we started to open the beans. Some of us felt very retro during this activity. While we were opening them, our backs and legs started to hurt. We didn’t have enough time to finish because we had to leave already. It was really fascinating how many different colours the different types of beans had and how beautiful some of them were. Some of the beans were coloured like Yin and Yang, some were pink or purple, some black, white or brown. Would ever have thought that beans are beautiful?
Some girls agreed that they would even tell their own kids that they used to pick and sort beans in their youth time. We also were allowed to take some beans home if we wanted to. One of us even tried to steal a pumpkin in his bag, but Ms Langer and Ms Imam didn’t allow it and forced him to bring it back.
